The European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO) supports the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) by promoting the World Digestive Health Day 2019 on May 29th dedicated to the early diagnosis and treatment of GI cancer. As WGO states, according to the World Health Organization globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death with an estimated 18 million cancer cases around the world. Of those cases the 4 of the 7 top most common cancers are from the digestive system. It is because of this world health burden that the World Gastroenterology Organization and the WGO Foundation have selected the Early Diagnosis and Treatment of GI Cancer as the focus of the 2019 World Digestive Health Day campaign. The theme for the World Digestive Health Day 2019 campaign is "Early Diagnosis and Treatment of GI Cancer." |
