Behaviour change at the centre Knowing what people should change is rarely enough to help them change it. For this reason, behaviour change and communication are central components of the ELMO Certificate. Participants are introduced to the principles of Motivational Interviewing and learn to distinguish between an expert-driven approach and a collaborative approach to lifestyle counselling. Through practical exercises, participants develop skills in: active and empathic listening; identifying motivation and readiness for change; exploring ambivalence; collaborative goal setting; supporting realistic and sustainable lifestyle changes; communicating across different professional and cultural backgrounds. Who is the Certificate for? The programme is designed primarily for healthcare professionals and others working in health, prevention and wellbeing, including: medical doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, dietitians and nutrition professionals, physiotherapists and exercise professionals, psychologists and other health professionals, students in health-related disciplines. The teaching sessions and final examination are delivered online. Is the programme only for medical doctors?No. The Certificate welcomes medical doctors, allied health professionals, students and other eligible professionals working or intending to work in health and wellbeing.
